MMC 1000 Essay Questions

When it comes to replacing the traditional textbook with the Wall Street Journal, I think that it is most definitely a step in the right direction. In a field like communication, having the latest information is paramount. In today's society, news and information can be accessed via television, radio, cell phones, laptops and almost everything in between. Consequentially, it is this vast availability of information that makes textbooks seem obsolete. By integrating the Wall Street Journal into the curriculum, we manage to obtain the latest information and stay up to date on current events.

Currently, my newspaper reading habit is somewhat sporadic. Whenever I do take the time to sit down and read a newspaper it is, more often then none, in the morning before going to school. Between school, work and other activities I personally find it easier to just watch the news or read something of particular interest from a news website. Although, now that I am reading the Wall Street Journal on a daily basis, I can see how it could become a daily habit.

I believe that the learning experience using the Wall Street Journal as a textbook, apposed to using an actually textbook, will overall be a positive experience. By reading stories that are happening now, we get a better sense of what mass communication is and how it applies to our everyday lives. I also think that students would rather read a newspaper than a textbook, and as a result, class discussions would be more interesting.
